ADVISORY PROGRAM
Our Advisory Program is designed to give personal support to high school students, as well as facilitate communication between home and school. Grade Leaders and Advisors play important roles in assuring that each student receives support in meeting the academic and personal standards expected of our students. Each Advisor is assigned a small group of students from grades 9 to 12 which become their Community Time (CT) group. The CT group spends regular time together during the week and throughout the year developing and executing community service projects. Some of the projects in which students have taken part include: teaching literacy skills to youth and adults who have not completed their elementary education, supporting children of incarcerated women, family food packages, home construction for the disadvantaged, developing libraries in neighboring communities, and classroom support to local schools. Through their dedication to these very personal projects, students develop core values of responsibility, perseverance, empathy and caring, and tolerance, as well as skills in leadership, group dynamics, communication and organization.
GUIDANCE COUNSELING
The Counselor provides all students with emotional and social support, whether needed for a momentary voice of encouragement or long-term counseling with follow-up. Additionally, the Counselor presents a special program, Wholesome Life, with the goals of teaching the facts of human sexuality and developing in each student increased self-esteem, self-understanding and self-control. Other topics include the danger of substance abuse, coping with stress and developing satisfying, effective relationships with others. Special care is taken so that students can easily understand the topics without embarrassment.
PROGRAM FOR ACADEMIC SUPPORT
The Program for Academic Support (PAS) is a monitoring program designed to provide assistance to those students who need more direction and consistent feedback in their academic performance during high school. All students want to achieve academic success; yet this process is not always easy. PAS is designed to provide guidance, helping the team of teachers, student and parents recognize the student's areas of strengths and weaknesses in the learning process. Together with the PAS Coordinator, this team works towards implementing strategies that will support the student through his/her academic career here at CMSFQ. The goal of PAS is to create motivated, independent learners.
COMMUNITY POINT SYSTEM
At CMSFQ we believe that it is important to be part of a learning community where students learn from their mistakes. It is our expectation that students will follow our Code of Honor, and the rules and procedures of the secondary school and therefore enjoy the benefits of those positive choices. The community point system is designed to protect the learning environment and individual rights of all members of our community, while at the same time encouraging the offending student to reflect upon his/her behavior. We are here to support and encourage our students to reach their potential and to become persons of integrity who choose healthy behaviors.
