Student learning and personal growth are our priorities. Students will achieve excellence through our dynamic academic model, our strong sense of community and our diverse resources.

Our Dynamic Academic Model

  • Curriculum, instruction, and assessment are supported by current research in education, especially in the areas of brain research and metacognition (learning about learning).
  • The curriculum gives importance to both international standards and Ecuadorian culture.
  • Students attain high levels of proficiency in both English and Spanish through a long-term bilingual model that begins with English immersion during the early childhood years and transitions to a full bilingual program.
  • A liberal arts curriculum, including distinctive programs in music and art, contributes to developing well-rounded individuals.
  • Core values are developed through and reinforced by our academic and community-building programs.

Instruction

  • Quality instruction is age and developmentally appropriate.
  • Instruction promotes the discovery, understanding, and application of the concepts and values relevant today and in the future.
  • A balanced approach to instruction includes learning by doing, cooperative learning, modeling, direct instruction, and teachers as facilitators.
  • Teachers provide differentiated instruction and implement necessary classroom adaptations to meet the needs of all learners
  • Query-based instruction awakens students' sense of wonder and curiosity.
  • Taking risks and making mistakes are considered an integral part of learning.

Assessment

  • Assessment provides the best evidence of learning. A balanced approach to assessment includes real world and performance assessment, traditional evaluation, standardized testing, and most importantly, adjustment of instruction based on evaluation results.
  • Self-evaluation and awareness help students recognize their strengths and weaknesses and take greater responsibility for their learning.

Our Strong Sense of Community

  • Students, parents, and school personnel are all integral members of the Colegio Menor community.
  • Community members are dedicated to building and maintaining a positive school climate through both team contributions and individual productivity.
  • All individuals are accountable to the community and conduct themselves in accordance with the Code of Honor.
  • Community members celebrate and support each other through successful, as well as difficult moments of growth and change.
  • An active calendar of school events brings community members together for artistic, cultural, athletic and social activities.
  • Students and faculty actively participate in community service, recognizing that community extends far beyond the Colegio Menor campus.

Our Diverse Resources

  • Highly qualified teachers and personnel supported by an ongoing program of supervision and evaluation which cultivates, recognizes and celebrates good teaching.
  • Support services provided by experienced professionals and specialists in areas such as counseling, early intervention, special needs, English as a Second Language, and college counseling.
  • A modern library and teacher resource room with over 40,000 book titles and didactic materials, contributing to a collection of almost 100,000 items.
  • First-rate facilities that include science and computer labs, athletic fields, a planetarium, ample green spaces and the DaVinci Center which houses the Art, Music and Athletics departments.
  • Academic and discipline support programs that require students to be active participants in finding solutions to their problems and to assume their responsibilities in the school community.
  • Professional development opportunities in and outside the country that update and enhance effective teaching.
  • Technology integrated throughout the school's academic programs and administrative services, serving as a learning and support tool, a medium of communication, and a source of information for all members of the community.
